Kenya is looking to increase its share of energy from low-carbon sources, with plans to add 500 MW of geothermal and 800 MW of wind capacity by 2013, authorities announced earlier this month. In Low Carbon Energy: A Roadmap, Worldwatch President Christopher Flavin outlines how new energy systems can be an engine of industrial development and job creation, while providing developing countries with an opportunity to "leapfrog" the carbon-intensive development path of the 20th century.
